{Glass Glitter} DIY Sheet Music Ornaments

Do you enjoy making ornaments for your Christmas tree?
Growing up, my mom would find us kids an ornament kit or craft to make for our tree, so I still enjoy making ornaments for my tree.

This ornament project is an easy one.
You need a computer, a printer, sheet music (or you can find downloadable sheets online), mod podge, jute string, chipboard, glitter (I used glass glitter and at the bottom of this post, you will find a link with more info), and adhesive for glitter.

Sheet music is also easy to find at garage sales, etc.
or I have found good lots of it on ebay. You just have to make sure that the music is not super fragile to where it will fall apart easily.
First, I found some great vintage images
over at the Graphics Fairy where you can search
and download any of her FREE Christmas graphics.

The assortment of Crowns, I found by searching her site.
The cross and Madonna with child were in the Religious category.
I searched for images that were just black.

I then shrunk the images and made sure they would print
out in the center of the page.

I tore sections of sheet music and taped them in the center of my computer printer paper and printed the image onto the sheet music.
Next, I cut chipboard (which is thick poster board and can be found at your local craft store near the mats for picture framing)
to the size I wanted. These are approximately 3" X 4" in size.

Then fold the sheet music around chipboard
and tear it along the lines you just made.

Mod podge the sheet music to the chipboard. Begin with the back of the sheet paper image, then mod podge the top and let dry on wax paper. I left the back of the chipboard alone.

When dry, add a bead of glue along edges and sprinkle with glass glitter or regular glitter works too.

Let the glitter and glue dry completely. Attach knotted pieces of jute string onto back of chipboard with a dot of hot glue and you're ornament is ready to hang on your tree.
Can you see the individual shards of glitter?
You can see a little of the sparkle in this picture.
Glass glitter was used in the 1900's, so if you have any vintage ornaments, they may have glass glitter on them.

The glitter is actually pieces of glass, so it sparkles like crazy!
I buy mine online at Meyer's Imports and for this project I used
the Silver fusion, which is a bag of combined grit of 70 and 90.

A little of this glass glitter goes a long way, so work on wax paper, so the excess can be easily funneled back into the container and used for your next project.
