The Christmas decorations are all packed away.
It's always an adjustment for me to see the house without them,
because it can seem a little barren and "cold".
How do you warm things up in the middle of winter?
Candles are a must! One votive and one pillar candle warm up the entryway vignette.
Windows with the sun shining in fill a room with light and warmth. Vintage luggage stores our individual throws.
There might be 2 at the bottom that don't match the color scheme,
so it's a good way to keep them out of sight,
but still within reach.
The mantle gets a wintery look with feathers, antlers, old family photos, and more candles.
Votives of different sizes, shapes, and even
2 silver plated baby cups hold tea lights.
A little fire and candlelight always warms up a space.
A cozy home is not only one that is physically warm,
but one where others feel welcome, comfortable and invited.
A home is also a safe haven for the family to gather,
regroup and spend time together after a long day.
Crock pot meals and soup are a wintry staple at our house.
While you may be sipping hot cocoa, we like to snuggle in the Living Room with our throws, while slurping
chocolate and crushed peppermint milkshakes.

The couch is the perfect place to grab a magazine,
a throw and relax.
The little bird keeps the stack of magazines in order.

I enjoy finding decor items that are reasonably priced, check out some of my tips here.
Now to the Master Bedroom.
The painted Armoire is still a favorite piece that was transformed
with AS Chalkpaint.
I decided to make my own "blingy" antler mount.
I'll be sharing the how to's in a later post.
I love the mixture of masculinity and femininity in our bedroom.
The sitting area is inviting with the sun streaming in behind.
This is where I blog, edit photos, and have quiet time.
Pillows, glorious pillows and a fur throw...
This Mongolian lamb pillow is as luscious as it looks,
and who wouldn't want to relax in a tufted chair?

The Master Bath
A hot bath, fluffy towels, a soft bathmat,
epsom salts and candles is how I like to end a long wintry day.
The Back Porch
If I put the guitar out on the back porch, do you think he'll come out and play for his Momma?
The fire pit is soon to be our family "kum-ba-yah"
favorite spot to hangout.
Isn't he the cutest? Love that teenage boy, who plays guitar for me!

Janis, although your home is just stunning inside, I just love that music by the fire pit!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! ME TOO!! Hoping I can coax him out there on a regular basis. Thanks for stopping by.

ReplyDeleteThis is such a fun tour Suzy! We had the flu before Christmas and missed seeing some family members, so I think I've been needing to see some of their faces, hence the photo display! Appreciate your sweet comments.
DeleteOh my word, I love your home and everything looks so cozy for sure. Great vignettes. Best of all is your son playing for his mom. Love that. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteThanks Marty for your kind words. Yes, I saved the best for last for this Momma!!!

ReplyDeleteAngela @ Number Fifty-Three
Thanks Angela! I enjoy mixing things up and moving things around, which is how the mantle came to be. So glad you stopped by.

DeleteJanis…your home is gorgeous…I always love seeing the wonderful things you do to your home to further enhance its beauty…today you had me at the fire pit…how wonderful is that!!...
ReplyDeleteOh thanks Shirley! It's one of those easy fire pits with a propane tank, so no smoky hair...at least that's what my daughter and I appreciate about it!
DeleteJanis you have a lovely home. And yes, very warm and inviting. Love all the candles. They certainly do warm up a room this time of year. Those milkshakes sound divine. And what a sweet Momma's boy to play for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lauren! We can eat ice cream any time of year! I do have a sweet boy. Appreciate your sweet comments. xoxo
DeleteGorgeous! If you ever need a house sitter - I'll get myself on a plane to Texas!!! I want to stay in that master suite - just divine! Seeing your son playing his guitar - so special! And, another favorite thing - that feather wreath!!! Love it all girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteIf you come to Texas, I will not be leaving town, just sayin'! I bet you've been serenaded by at least one of your sons before too, so you know how truly special it is! And first time to put that feather wreath there. Fun to "shop the house", as Shirley likes to say! Thank you sweet friend for stopping by. xoxo
DeleteHello, Beautiful job you have done on making a house a home ~ Peaceful and Serene ~ Can you tell me the paint color you used on your bedroom?
ReplyDeleteYes, the paint color is "Tilled Soil" by Sherwin Williams. It was a Martha Stewart color, so I'm sure they still have the formula in their computer. We built and painted 8 years ago. Thanks so much for your kind comments.
DeleteBeautiful, Janis. I love those shots of the sun streaming in.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim! I've been "working" on my photography. I still have a long way to go, but I'm tickled that you mentioned those shots.
DeleteHow cozy and comfy! Love your home. You can feel the peace of the Lord just looking at the photos.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh Lori, thanks hun! I always welcome the peace of the Lord, wherever I am! Miss you and wish we could sit and have coffee. xoxo
DeleteJanis, Where do I begin... what a gorgeous, warm, chic home you have. I adore the black and white photos on your manel. What a great idea. If I were you I'd have a hard time leaving the bedroom. Stunning... everything! The bedspread and pillows... sigh! I certainly feel happy and cozy and very inspired!
ReplyDeleteOh Yvonne, I have been known to "linger" in my bedroom in the early morning hours! Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind words. xoxo
DeleteYour home is very castle-like with the colors you have chosen and it's design. Looks like a nice place to cozy up to the fireplace with a great book!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Terry! When the cold snap hit us too, we did enjoy the fireplace. It doesn't happen often, so we have to celebrate it! xoxo
DeleteJanis,
ReplyDeleteI adore your use of deer sheds throughout your home decor, dear one!!!
"Mr. Ed" used to deer hunt and we had sheds and mounted antlers here on the Prairie, too.
I'm geting better at displaying them, but mostly in the lower level Family Room!
Thank you for sharing your cozy home.
The sun streaming through the window is stunning as it plays with shadows and streams upon your furnishings!
Fondly,
Pat
Janis, your home is just absolutely BEAUTIFUL and just oozes warmth, comfort, and cheer☺ I just love the fireplace vignette and your beautiful armoire and bathroom! Thank you so much for sharing your home and inspiring me!---♥Angie

ReplyDeleteJanis your home is absolutely gorgeous! Love your beautiful mantle and your photos displayed like art! Your fire pit looks like a fun place to hang out with your family and friends.
ReplyDeleteI need to set up a fire pit somewhere at my house. That looks so cozy. Of course mine would be buried in snow right now... I love your mantle with the snapshots on the side and the silverplate baby cups. I'll have to check out baby cups at the estate sales I go to this spring.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so cozy! I love the way your family gathers around the fire pit! Have a great weekend!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteLove that firepit! Your son is adorable!
